Just CHANNEL CATS 8/22
Hit the river again last night with Andre, Pablo and Alex. Alex would be the pool winner of the night catching his first ever Invasive Flathead around 10-12 lbs. Fish was nice and fat and went right on a stringer for him and his family to enjoy at a BBQ today. i do not have a pic of this creature at this time but will try to get one.
Everyone had some bites and swings and misses last night. I managed a 3 pack of Channels on assorted baits. 1st fish small, around 20 inches, 2nd fish, average, around 23 inches, 3rd fish, average, around 25-26 inches and maybe 6-7 lbs. I left the fellas around midnight and they had no plans on leaving anytime soon. I'm hoping they got into a few more BEASTS as the night went on. All in all a nice brisk night on the big river with some good people. Alex, however, is on my shit list. He may have caught the biggest fish last night but the dude needs to learn how to cast and not cross peoples lines. I lost like 100 yards of Power Pro off one of my reels because of this goon. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, it happens, he's still a good guy. Just needs to learn how to cast with his 10 foot freshwater surf rod, LOL!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!!!

Those are some fatty channels. I've never eaten them from the D. How are they?

Re: Just CHANNEL CATS 8/22
Quite tasty my friend. The fellas cooked a couple fresh fillets on the open fire Saturday night but I left before I could get a taste. Much different than catching them out of a pond or lake. You don't need to soak these river cats in a bathtub for 2 days to get the muddy taste out of the meat.

.
Nice catfish. Now that the mosquitoes are slowing down in the cooler night air, I may spend a few more evenings looking for Channel Cats. Are the Channel Catfish in the Delaware River naturally reproducing? I checked the Fish & Wildlife website and can't find any indication that they stocked Channel cats in the recent past. http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/fish_ch_cat.htm http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/2...king_chc14.pdf .

Ha ha ha
Eddy eddy, When Alex learns how not to cross peoples lines that the day you have to buy a lottery ticket. You have more chances to hit jackpot then this fool learning not to cross lines. Anyways night was cold and mostly uneventful. Pablo lost 3 solid hits at night with one coming off right when we got it to the rocks. Alex left around 1am without getting anything else. Personally had only two solid runs with one spitting it out before I managed to set the hook and second one deep diving like a whale and wrapping my line around something. All I heard was a quick solid pop when it snapped and that was all she wrote. Second night in a row had my line snap. Something aint right. Great and rather cold night to be out regardless. Andre |
