Default Passaic River-Chatham to Millington stretch questions.

I never hear anything about fishing the Passaic between Chatham to Millington. Are there pike here also? Would love to get some info on this area. Also the Green brook that runs through the swamp. I'll be working in Millington for a while and it would be nice to explore a new area.

I caught a pike in Chatham trout fishing two weeks ago. They are there but I suspect as you move upstream in fewer and fewer numbers

Chatham is good around Stanley Park, there are pike there, not that big. But up from there in Berkeley Heights its brown water and many fallen trees. You would lose a lot of lures for not very good fish. It is decent for carp up there.

I started fishing for trout in Chatham this year and have done well, I haven't explored much but looks promising for bass and pike

There are still trout in the Passaic River in Millington. Try from the gorge area (Route 657) near the quarry down to Valley Road.

.

They don't stock any pike that far upstream. There are a couple of dams in the Chatham area that keep the vast majority of pike from being able to access the upper reaches of the Passaic.

That being said, there are a few 'local experts' that manage to find the very few pike that live in that area. I guess they swim past the dams when the river floods.

Outside of the trout-stocking areas, that area of the Passaic mostly contains yellow bullheads, small-medium carp, swarms of sunfish, some pickerel, and various cyprinids like white sucker and creek chub. You may find a few small largemouth bass.

I was considering kayaking that area, but the water levels are already low because it hasn't rained in a while. I need to flush my toilet a few times and see if the water level rises.
