Default South Branch Clinton area

Great mayfly hatch going on. Caught 11 trout on a gold spinner. The trout were aggressive as hell today. Fished from Califon down to Stanton. Lots of fish still to be caught.
I spotted many trees eaten by beavers today. One tree about 12" thick was eaten all the way thru to about 1". Next storm it's going to drop across the river. There were many others all along the river. I decided to make a call to F&G tomorrow. It's a very dangerous situation.
I volunteered to help stock the Musky tomorrow. Should be an interesting day.

Thumbs up Re: South Branch Clinton area

I floated down through Stanton the other week and didn't even get a sniff, great stretch of water, plus it's a little cleaner now thanks to the people who got in the river and pulled out all the junk.

Thanx for volunteering too, it means a lot.

.

That is a nice section of river.

As a kid I fished the Red Mill Museum section of the South Branch above the dam, but now the people there banned shore angling from the museum grounds and so have the stores on the other side of the river.

Beavers are making a comeback it seems. I'm seeing trees on almost every waterway I fish destroyed by beavers.

yep the beavers get real active this time of year. i like them because they make habitat for fishing. only time they piss me off is night fishing over at splitrock when they swim right up to the boat and give you a shower with their tail slap.

.

yes, beavers are good.
They add structure to the lakes by adding branches to the water. Sometimes, they'll even cut a tree so that it falls into the lake.

If I am understanding the talk in the trapping section of NewJerseyHunter correctly, the state is going to increase he number of beavers that can be trapped because their numbers are increasing.
