Default Florida Fishing With Tuna Wahoo

Just got back from Florida and last Wednesday had the pleasure of fishing with Captain Rich Adler on the www.TunaWahoo.com out of the Sailfish Marina on 3/4 day sailfish charter. Rich just relocated down there permanently in October after a 6 day trip to steam down there on the boat from NJ.

Weather was supposed to be nice but it was tough. A solid 15 out of the NW against a strong northerly current made for tight 4 to 5 foot seas... Good thing the grounds are only a short distance from the marina as the Gulf Stream runs very close to that part of Florida.

We toughed it out and after a half hour steam we got some Google Eye baits in the water on kites, a flat line bait and and a balloon bait which were running up towards the bow. After a few hours, all we had to show for all the efforts was a small Dusky and a sea sick Grandson. So, Rich decided to go up on the troll to try to shake off the sea sickness and with the grandson in check, proceeded to put in some OT and see if he could work some Mahi magic to no avail.

Back at the dock seemed like everyone struggled and not a Sailfish flag was flying so not our day. Wouldn't you know, Rich texted me the following day saying there was a hot Sailfish bite right where we were fishing the day before. That's fishing......

If you are down in the area you have to check Rich and the Sailfish Marina out. My wife and I both commented that we felt like we were in the Bahamas. Unlike many other areas we visited during our week long trip, the water in this specific area, even inside the marina, is Gin clear due to their close proximity to the Gulf Stream. The Marina is top notch... All floating cement docks and a great restaurant/bar/resort right by all the boats in the Marina. That's living in my book.

Thanks for the hospitality and all the effort Rich. We really enjoyed our time with you. Hope to fish with you again soon and best of luck in your new home.

Gerry- Thanks for the kind words, it was a pleasure hosting you and the family. The wind has been blowing the past couple of days from the north and east, that really turns on the sails and mahi, and I am looking forward to getting out on Wednesday and Thursday. I'll post up some photos when we get back. Thanks again---Rich
