This program emphasizes the importance of doing your own observation and experimentation. It presents the natural phenomena and aesthetic experiences that make fly fishing a continual intrigue. The program includes the following:
- A seasonal guide to eastern hatches
- Some little-known facts about major hatches
- The importance of stream-to-stream variation
- Correlation of immature and adult stages
- Recommended patterns, theories of fly design
- Techniques for different hatches
- Time of year, time of day, and water types for various hatches
