Default Garone Custom Rods 8/3-8/6 2.5 day Tile report

Another charter is in the books and it was another good one! We had good conditions to drift the deep most of both days and Captain Jeff did what he does so well and put us on some phenomenal fishing!

Day one we started shallow with nice blueline tiles and occasional golden tile coming up. Me, Chris, and Amy were jigging in the back of the boat doing some damage using 6 oz jigs and light gear on the tiles when Chris hooks something a little different just off the bottom. Chris was using his deep water fluke and seabass setup a Garone Custom Rods GUSA 70MH and Ocea Jigger 1500HG with 30# braid and 50# topshot. After a half hour fight Capt Jeff sunk the gaff home and it was game over! A super impressive catch on such light gear!

We then moved on to the deep and caught some very nice fish. I was still messing around with a jig that was way too light and only got one 10# fish but everyone else was hooking up with some quality fish with several in the 20's and Fred got a nice one in the mid 30's. Unfortunatley there were a whole lot of tuna boats out there and we got pushed out of the area. The rest of the day we had a steady pick of nice goldens and blueline both in the deep and up on the bank.

As the sun set we were all exhausted but very happy with the days catch and Maria cook up a great meal to get everyone energized for the next day of fishing. We made an hour steam and set up on the anchor. Me and a couple guys put some sword lines out and tried to catch squid but the ocean seemed dead.

Day 2 I was woken by the sound of sinkers and fish hitting the deck. The crazy part was it was still almost pitch black! Frank Pogue and Gary Yearwood were catching them 2 at a time on the anchor. Everyone filed out and started to bang away at nice bluelines and some goldens. Amy was jigging and hooked a mystery fish on the way down, but this time the light tackle was too light and the fish broke off about 3 minutes into the fight.

Once we had good light we moved to the deep. The first couple drops were a little slow with only a few fish coming up, but what did was mostly teen sized fish. With the slower fishing an torrential rain in the area Jeff decided to run up the line about an hour. As we ran North the weather improved and when he pulled back on the throttles we were greeted to sunny skies and very little wind. This was a deep drop, but the fish were worth it! In 3 drifts on this area Dwayne hooked into a 45# pig that won the pool, Ralph Molinaro landed his personal best 41.5# and Amy also landed her personal best 39-40# and there were a dozen or so other fish in the 20's along with plenty of high teen sized goldens. After 3 drifts a tuna long line had floated into the area and we made another move. The rest of the day we spent deep and had a steady pick of nice fish come up with most in the teens, but a weird current kept us from catching as well as we might have. At that point it didn't matter because most guys had full coolers and tons of fish!

I would like to thank everyone who fished on all three of my charters this year for such a fun experience, I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did. Also a huge thank you is in order for Captain Jeff, Captain John, mates Dominic, John, and Kevin along with Maria working the galley for all their hard work. Without their hard work and knowledge none of these trips could have happened!
