![]() Went out with a pretty good crowd today including Blackback Doug. Dock fluking was NFG though I did hear of snappers and small stripers there Sunday evening. Most of the day was a slow pick. We had a hard current with light wind so anchoring and fishing was a bit challenging. Towards mid day we came up on a lobster pot and there was a gigantic leatherback turtle, 500lbs plus, all tangled up in the line. Customers and crew alike worked to haul him closer to the boat so lines could be cut. He swam away with some line still wrapped around his shell. Hopefully we'll get some of the video shot for this report.
Last stop of the day was pretty decent with ling and some nice flounder. I wound up with 2 flounder and 16 ling. Blackback Doug had a flounder, a sea bass and 10 ling. Regular Bob won the pool with a 4lb flounder and he had 2 flounder, a sea bass and 12 ling. A guy near us probably had around 15 ling but he did not count and I wasn't going cooler diving. Most had some good eats and an interesting nature show. Last edited by tautog; 07-21-2014 at 09:46 PM.. |

![]() Great Post.
Glad you where able to send that turtle swimming more freely. A couple of years ago, we sailed on the Paramount and had a great day with a cooler full of tasty ling. On the way back in we saw a very large turtle swimming off the port side. Closer to shore on the same trip we saw a whale surface just in front of the boat. ![]() ![]() As we approached the inlet, the Capt. invited myself and daughter to Captains helm for the ride in. This still ranks as one of my daughters best trips. The Paramount is a first rate operation! |

![]() That turtle was pretty hard to handle. Some animals seem to understand you are trying to help them, others...not so much. My experiences with sea turtles the last two weeks have me thinking they are not very bright.

![]() Seems like they may have finally moved outside the shallows saw very few under 85 feet this week. Ultra deep is still slow too.
