![]() I used to fish there many moons ago with the fam from a canoe with a side mount elec motor. I'm pretty sure it was car-top only then and I have no idea what it is like now. We always did well on live shiners with bass, pickerel, huge rock bass, etc. If I recall correctly, the main lake had some very nice rock structures along the shorelines and there was also some deep water along the dam. Below the falls, the river held trout and whatever else washed over. We never really fished the other lakes aside from when my brothers and I would get dropped off and had to fend for ourselves. Good times, though. Lot's of nice fish and great memories.

![]() gwl2oneida,
I fish Harriman State Park regularly, have passes to all of the lakes that allow fishing, including Sterling Forest which is a separate sticker, and Island Pond, which is a key only access lake. I am planning to go up there today or tomorrow to take advantage of these overcast conditions. If you have a canoe or kayak or jon boat with electric motor, you should consider getting the sticker so you can explore. $30 for the PIPC permit, $15 each for Island Pond key or Sterling Forest sticker. You need to go to the Ranger Station at Tiorati Circle, with the vessel, pdf, oars, whistle, and valid NYS fishing license. I believe they are open until 4 PM daily but check for the hours. Bring ca$h. 845-351-2568 Tight linez! K-Rocks |

![]() For hike in only, Island Pond is your best bet. An interesting hike through the Lemon Squeezer and skirts the Appalachian Trail with nice views.
http://www.nynjtc.org/hike/island-po...-squeezer-loop BTW, the true hike in to the pond is 1.1 miles from the Elk Pen parking lot. You can make the round trip shorter/longer by taking different routes http://www.hikeformentalhealth.org/2...active-people/ |
