Default Advice for Fall Trout Fishing

So I've been trout fishing for the last 2 spring stocking seasons. I haven't had a chance to get out in the fall yet, but I'm trying to make it happen this year. I was wondering if anybody has some suggestions on what to use for bait/lures this time of year. Do they go for the same stuff as in the spring? I use fatheads alot but I dont think they are available for the fall. Also, I know the stocking doesn't start for a few more weeks, but I'm still seeing pictures of people catching them on here. Are you guys fishing the deeper holes in the warmer weather? or are they starting to come out again? Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

thanks Andy! I live in somerset county, bridgewater specifically. I fished the musky a ton this spring, off of 31 and also up by the rod+gun club. and i hit the north/south branch occassionally as well, and the black river and the lamington. so im willing to drive pretty much wherever as long as my schedule allows it lol.

Lightbulb Re: Advice for Fall Trout Fishing

You are right near me ! Fall trout are stocked when the trees unload. I've been down this path a few times and finally figured it out when I watched people (including myself) throw the tackle box at these fish.
They have a lot of stored fat and don't need to eat right away. The smaller spring fish need to eat right away, big fall fish don't. Between the water choked with leaves and the fish not feeding you wait till around November 1st then head out. You will have the rivers to yourself and will be catching tons of big trout. All the methods you described will work, remember to check your drag before you go, these fish are big and stong !
