Default D&R Canal trout

Hit the D&R canal this afternoon around Lambertville. Fished a worm/power egg combo and tossed some gold color panther martins. Ended up with 6 releases, forced to keep 2 gill hooked rainbows. All trout rainbows and were either 10 inches or 13 inches, no in between. Aggressive fish today, missed at least 8 or 9 swipes on the spinners. Canal still a little off color , but definitely fishable. Another day or two should be good as long as the downpours hold off.

I was the only one fishing for trout. One bass fisherman, otherwise just me. Lots of open water with the trout against the far edge. Was like having my own private water way. Usually dont hit "traffic" till weekends. If you want exact location shoot me over a PM and I'll hit you up with it.

You were lucky to find a spot where they were. I also fished the D&R Feeder yesterday from West Trenton up to Titusville without a single trout caught. I talked to the 4 other guys I saw fishing and not one of them had as much as a hit. I did have a few hits but no takers. I didn't get skunked tho as I hooked a 16" pickerel. A kid fishing the bridge in West Trenton with worms caught a small Walleye. First one I've seen taken out of there in 25 years fishing that spot.

Hit canal again this time nobody home. Water seemed more off color than yesterday, not sure why unless there is construction runoff somewhere. Not even a bump. Tried butterworms for the first time, and nothing. Did see a real nice brown, but took off like a shot not to be seen again. I have heard of a few walleye down towards the locks in New Brunswick. After Lambertville tried near Bulls Island, no good there either. Odd, seems like they are off. Dont tell me trout are affected by moon haha.
