do people break champagne on a new boat? or is that only for ships

The best way is to let the champagne first pass through your body to enjoy it.

Then break the bottle on the bow while emptying your bladder on the vessel being christaned.

If not good luck at least fun to watch.

i don't think i would want to smash anything besides fish against a fiberglass hull especially after paying that much for a boat, of any age or size, haha!

Pop the cork, put your thumb over the opening, shake vigorously, and spray the bow. Drink the rest, with a designated driver of course.
