Default Island Farm Weir Fish Ladder

on the Raritan River was cleaned out & opened, yesterday.

Rutgers professor, Olaf Jensen, will again be attempting to capture A. shad to tag & monitor their movement through the ladder. Rutgers is also taking over the video recording of the spawning run from the underwater viewing room. It is anticipated that this will be a long term commitment by Rutgers to this project. Olaf said that he plans to teach an undergraduate course on fish ladders, next year.

Reminder: Only the Delaware River is open to recreational A. shad fishing. All other freshwater systems, including the Raritan R., are closed.

Yesterday, while there, I observed 2 anglers casting off of the wall on the canal side. Hopefully, they weren’t targeting A. shad.

Thanx for the info Mark. Tough call to decide who is targeting American shad since people fish off that wall 24/7/365. In my days down there the last few years I seen a maximum number of 4 people targeting shad. I understand the moritorium if the numbers are low but in reality it would probably effect about 4 people, and I think that number is on the high side.
