![]() (Not just butterfly jigs, but assist hooks attached to the front of the jig in that style.) They seem to be getting popular. Last week I saw some ava-style jigs rigged that way, news to me.
So, are they effective for catching stripers, or just striper fishermen? My own sense is that I don't miss lots of fish for lack of a front hook. |

![]() we use the STINGO PBJ jigs for stripers instead of diamond jigs.
just in lighter sizes than we tuna fish with . They are deadly when bass are on sand eels. I like using an assist hook on the head and take the tail hook off |

![]() Use them all of the time. Many captains locally use them too. They have more action than a regular diamond jig, they make for easy release and to me....... just stronger connection between you and the fish overall.
I use assist hooks on Spanko Jigs, OMT Butterflys, CMT Diamonds and several of our own designs. I use a glow hook as well, which on some days can make a difference in the bite. Its not new, Mike on The Renegade has been doing it for years. He is the 1st one I heard of using them, and the guy I got the idea from. ![]() |
