![]() I am looking to pick up 2 new spinning baitrunners for my father and I for this season.. We had the Okuma ones but i was not happy with them at all... Cheap reel.. I was shopping around and saw the Shimano Baitrunner Spinning Reel.. looks like a decent reel.. Anyone used one? Like it? Or Can anyone recommend one that they have used and liked..
Open to anything.. Rather spend a few more bucks for a great reel then go cheap and have nothing but problems again.. thanks for any input! Jeff

![]() Can't beat Pete's offer to try it out first!
I can only add that I have 2 of them ... the 8 D on my 11 foot and the 6 on my 10 foot and I have had flawless performance with very minimal freshwater washdown maintenance for 2 years of heavy use ... ![]() |

![]() Have been using them for Sailfish down in Cancun for several years now ....and they hold up well ...should be no problem for the type of fish we catch up here.....

![]() I was down on these Shimano Bait Runner reels based on the issues I had with the earlier 3500/4500 models. They did not seem to hold up well, sloppy anti reverse, skipping in and out of gear when reeling etc.
That being said, wifey bought me the 8000 for my birthday 2 years ago and it has been flawless. Very smooth and trouble free so far and a big improvement over the 3500/4500.

![]() Hey Jeff I've been using them for years and love them. I'm not sure I think I have a pair of the 4500's. Great dead stick fluke setups, just set the liveliner drag enough to drag the sinker along the bottom so if the fluke picks up the bait, the drag will sing, then just flip the switch or reel down engaging the main drag and set the hook! Also my favorite for night bluefishing on a PB or chunking for bass, same story as above. Funny story, last year i was doing a night bluefish trip and i was sorta competing with another guy my age who had a brand new Avet. He kept talking big about the Avet, but when I was able to cast out right into the chum slick and almost immediately hook up and he kept hearing the drag scream when a fish ran with my bunker chunk vs him having to let out line to get out there, he was pisssssseeeedddddd.... I think I won the pool that night and I was laughing my ass off. Other guys saw what was going on and laughing as well. Penn has one too that is decent I heard, but have never tried them personally.
