Question Pepacton Reservoir questions:

Fishing and Boating on NYC Reservoirs

Note: A free New York City Public Access Permit is required in order to fish these reservoirs. A valid New York State fishing license is no longer necessary to obtain a NY City Public Access Permit. However, all anglers must possess a valid New York State fishing license when fishing on New York City Reservoirs.

All New York City fishing permits issued prior to 2002 are no longer valid. You must obtain a new permit before entering these lands.

Public Access Permits and applications are now available online at the DEP website (see link below). Applicants not choosing to apply online must submit their applications by mail, to the address indicated on the application. Public Access Permit application forms are available at existing New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Offices, DEP Police Precincts, Town Offices within the NYC watershed area and tackle shops and sporting goods stores within the NYC watershed area. In New York City, applications are available at:
•DEP's One-Stop Center in Queens, 59-17 Junction Blvd., 1st Floor, Low Rise (718)595-4820
•DEP's Bureau of Customer Conservation Services in Manhattan, 1250 Broadway, 8th Floor, New York, NY (212) 643-2215

Additional information about changing NYC Reservoir access conditions, information about fishing on New York City reservoirs, Public Access Permit application forms, Boating Tag application forms and Fishing and Boating Regulations are available at the DEP website (see link below).

Boating for the purpose of fishing is allowed on New York City Reservoirs. Boats are permitted for the reservoir specified on the application only, and must remain at the reservoir. All boats must be approved by and registered with NYC DEP. The DEP will honor current boat permits. Anglers who would like to register a new boat must first obtain a valid Public Access Permit and then file a Boating Tag Application in person. For more information on boating, or to schedule an appointment to process a new boat, contact the appropriate Watershed Protection Office

...............and there is alot more, anyone know more..........

Boating permits may be obtained from March 15th to October 15th of each year. Applicants must personally appear with their boats for inspection and cleaning, which shall be by appointment only. For the second and all subsequent years, boating permits must be validated by DEP prior to launching the boat for the first time in the year, but no later than October 15th of that year. Validation may be done in person or by mail by submitting a stamped, self-addressed envelope with the current boating permit and a copy of the current New York State fishing license and New York City fishing permit. If the boat has been removed from City property during the previous year, it must be inspected and cleaned by DEP prior to the validation and placement of the boat on City property.
Permittees must notify DEP in advance of removing a boat from City property. The boat may not be returned to City property until the following year, after the boat has been inspected, steam cleaned and the boating permit has been validated. Only one reinspection per year is permitted.
Boats must be located at designated boat areas only. From December 1st to April 1st, boats may remain on City property in designated winter storage areas above the high water mark. Boats not properly placed may be removed and disposed of by DEP if the owner does not claim the boat and reimburse DEP for its expenses.

.........................is it worth it, plenty of photos of 10lb + brown trout, break out the oars............no motors allowed.

Fished there alot as a kid and again recently. NEVER from a boat so its the first I've heard of the regs ya posted, not that the locals pay attention to any of it anyway.

Have heard of (never seen or tried for) monster browns deep in summer on live sawbellies. Surprisingly good SM action on the rip rap and the biggest rock bass I have ever seen in the same areas as the SM.

Did see an old wooden sign there recently that said "electric only" as far as boats. No idea if this was put up pre 9/11?? According to the regs ya posted that is no longer on the table...

Will be back up when spring turkey opens for a fish n' fowl weekend. Will get more intel on the place and pass it on.

I'm looking to split the cost of a used Sears 12' to share with someone
