Default NJFishing Tuna Trip on the Gambler

The NJ Fishing crew do it again.

We left the dock at 530 in some wind and a small heave. We arrived on the grounds of the Hudson around 11:00. After looking around for a while, Bobby decided to stop in the deep. As soon as we stopped we saw tons of tightly grouped squid.

We began to fish at 11:30 and our first bite was around 5:00. Then it all broke lose. From, 5:00-8:30-9 we had close to 35 fish on. The way they bit was a little strange. The would not slam the bait in a typical way.

In Pursuit Eric and Greg Swinicki jigged 90% of the time. Eric ended up with one of the long Fins. Greg only had one hit. The rest were all on sardines.

We ended up with 6-7 yellow fin up to 80lbs and 2 long fin that the largest was 70lbs.

The tuna were caught by: I'm missing someone?
Yellowfin tuna
Ahab, Scott Kiss
(2)YFT Muldune,
(2)YFT Pennsy Guy
(1) YFT, Kevin Pavone, a 70lb'er on 30lb gear. ( He was the missing person)

Long Fins
Jay Krause,
In Pursuit, Eric

After the morning bite seemed to tail off, Booby decided to pot hop for Mahi. I am guessing we put 25-30 nice mahi in the boat to finish off the day.

The Crew: Bobby and Keith, Kevin and Sean were excellent. Trying to keep everyone motivated through the "no bite night". We had (14) of the (23) standing up all night.

The Boat: The fastest, most comfortable and stabile platform that you could be on. Having the lights underneath the boat illuminate the water is great. The water was crystal clear and visability was at least 50'.

The Seas: We left in a small heave that was comfortable and we ended up coming home on a glossy sea that was beautiful. We saw the high surf back at the beach but we had beautiful weather the entire time.

Thanks again to Gerry for letting us run the trip off the web site and the crew of the Gambler that made this a great trip.

Pics will follwin in a few minutes.

What a fun trip! A lot of laughs and a nice bite at 5 topped off by some mahi.

The Gambler is second to none for these trips, a clean comfortable and fast ride with a top notch crew. I have to give special props to sean the mate, who after i hooked a yellow and couldn't bring it all the way in due to a hellascious tangle, tried to hand line it in with his bare hands. He got it within 6 inches of a gaff shot when the line snapped. Nice try man!

As for the NJFishing crew, well, Most put in maximum effort and it paid off! A bunch of good guys who fish their asses off.

I'm off to do some vacuum sealing. Till next time....................

Good time with a great bunch of folks. I had one on in the initial shot. I was in the port stern and ahab was on in the starboard stern. Mine shot toward the starboard bow while ahab's went to port. I think mine caught the prop and pop went the weasel Ahab got his.

The mahi fishing was funny as hell with 24 peeps tossing weightless lines across each other. How we didn't weave a carpet, i'll never understand

When Bobby stopped halfway in, it was surreal. Here are some pics and a short video....
