![]() I hope you are not anticipating a big pile of big fish on the ice. Lots of ifs... The only lake I saw in all my research for Warren County NY, is Kelm Pond.. There is NO information from the state other than its a private pond, and lists Pumpkinseeds as the only available fish species. NY lists every puddle of more than a couple acres in NYS DEC fishing database, depths, species, access, everything.. It showed nothing at all for Kelm Pond at all other than what I posted... If the lake is 100% private, no public access, it could be killer fishing however as those small private HOA lakes are well maintained, stocked by HOA's and don't get a ton of pressure, and the state DEC doesn't bother addressing them in their database.. So it might be great.. or a flop.. Just a year or two ago, a guy caught a 4 lb White Crappie in a private HOA Lake, new NY state record, and another over 3 pounds the same day, so who knows?.. Some small private lakes/ponds in upstate ny are great, others are a waste of time.. Here's what I found out bout Kelm Pond in Warrensburg-

![]() I think we found the same stuff lol. First off I’m hoping there’s good ice! But I saw the pumpkinseed report too. The owner told me there’s both large and small mouth bass, pickerel northern pike. I’d be surprised if there’s not cat fish, perch, crappie etc. I guess we will see. I’m going with family so other things will be going on too. I’ll post about it.

![]() as stated, some of those small private lakes are really loaded, others are worthless.. Problem with "private" is the fact that they are ringed with houses, and some get intense pressure, and others are virtually untouched...

![]() That looks like Tannin stained water.. Lots of those in the Adirondacks, most have white sand bottoms, brown water , and most aren't that productive.. There are fish there, but that stained water is acidic, and not very productive.. Lots of guys find them tough to fish.. Locals would probably know the productive areas best, so you might want to ask questions when you're there.
Those tannin stained lakes have no rocks for crayfish, nymph life, not a lot of bottom dwelling minnows etc. I don't bother with them, as the clear water, rocky lakes have a lot more life in them.. Look, it might be great, I have no way of knowing of course. Even though I live in NY state, I don't fish the Adirondacks..Too many hard hit tannin stained lakes.. The Adirondacks are "world reknowned" for fishing, but I don't know why.. I never found those dark sand bottom waters near as productive as clear rocky, weedy lakes....You're going to be there anyway, so its worth a shot.. Maybe it doesn't get hit hard by tourists, and thats always a plus.. |
