![]() Went carping in 86 degrees Robert G Martin Lake this evening on a hot, sunny day with a cool north wind on fireworks night. Lots of people were arriving when I was leaving. Threw out corn 🌽 for chum, then caught 5 common carp, 2 redeared sliders and a bluegill with canned whole kernel corn 🌽 bait. Landed carp (32) on the last 13 consecutive days. Lots of minnows were near the shore. Carp were jumping in the middle of the lake. An adult bald eagle was fishing nearby with great blue herons and a belted kingfisher. Took pictures.

![]() I thought you wrote at some point that you give the carp to folks that like to eat them..Wondering if you have ever had a chance to taste one?.... I tried one once and it was truly awful, and it was from a beautifully clear, deep ,cold lake. maybe others know the best cooking methods that I overlooked.
btw, I love the old school tackle... Looks like an original, possibly made in France Mitchell 300, mated with an old cork handle fiberglass rod..Thats the kind of stuff i still use. It caught fish 50 years ago and still does... no need for $500 rod and reel combos, but I see an awful lot of them being used these days... |

![]() BulletBob: Read you post when I hit the part where you mentioned about seeing that old Mitchell 300 you brought back a ton of memoeries about Mitchell fishing reels. have a few stored away for a number of years now,,Can't bring myself to get rid of them.Would bet they still work as yours still do. can't hit the fishing trails any longer bad legs..But luv this site can still read. LOL Do you got back a little further when Mitchell made the 304 & the 314? Have an old 308 also was their version of and ultra lite reel. Broke my 300's in on the Passaic river fishing for carp just like this article. Worms in spring cornmeal in summer. Any how good reading your posts, I think we chatted few years back, discussing which state had better fishing NJ or NY..funny part was I favored NY state and live in NJ, You stated you preferred NJ but lived in NY. How I haven't bored ya..Good luck on the waters and keep them lines tite.
