![]() So I wanted to take a stab at Mahi fishing this year. I am wondering if there are any spots off OC NJ that people can suggest. I have to pick my days, as I am a smaller boat (23 foot with single 300 hp). I am clueless to Mahi, but I have a boat that I feel can handle on the good days (unless otherwise told). Any suggestions for a new angler looking to take a stab at this.

![]() I’m not too familiar with your inshore grounds but what you’re looking for is areas with Lobster pots and those are usually around areas with structure changes like steeper drop offs. The Spencer Canyon would be a likely place but that would be a 76 mile run for you each way and I don't think that’s advisable for a single motor 23 foot boat, even if you had the fuel capacity…
You could give the reefs in the area a shot but not sure they’ll hold Mahi unless there are pots on them but maybe someone here will chime in… In the mean time here’s an article I wrote about small boat mahi fishing that you may find helpful https://www.njfishing.com/forums/sho...mall+boat+mahi
