Nor’easter gale bluefish

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening during a nor’easter gale in the rain on the outgoing tide. Saw bluefish and a skate caught while getting ready to go fishing. Nobody was near my spot on the jetty. After I caught, tagged, then released a 31” 9 lb bluefish with a diamond jig, two fishermen were to the left of my spot and 4 fishermen were to the right of my spot. I went further out on the jetty past everyone but two fishermen followed me, then started fishing 🎣 to my left and right. The guy to my right started casting across my spot and to my left. Didn’t get a hit or see a fish 🐟 get caught after that. Saw a school of spawning blackfish jump out of the inlet. The wind nearly blew me away when I walked back to my car to go home. Got wet.

With every bit of due respect, ... I enjoy your posts,- informative and interesting... However the "my spot" references?... In a state as incredibly crowded as NJ??.. yeah, I dunno, maybe you are being a little bit tongue in cheek with that. That inlet wall was always packed with fishermen even decades ago, and from pictures I see, as soon as the seasons first fluke or bluefish is report, its even worse than I remember it being .. So having a guy fish to your right or left is not really "taking your spot"... There are only so many "spots" there actually.

I dearly miss several things about NJ.. The ocean, the bays, the tidal rivers, the salt marshes and the funky smell they always had.. My beloved salt water fishing I miss most of all... However I never miss the crowds of people always and everywhere, including at many fishing places.. Crowds are a fact of life in NJ whenever and wherever there are some fish to be caught, except I imagine for maybe a couple of places that are kept under wraps by a few folks in the know. Keep the reports coming we all enjoy them! However, I would wager no one is taking your spot on purpose .. Like you, they are just trying to catch a fish or two... bob

It sounds to me like our friend uses the term "my spot" as a way to describe his favorite place to fish...
Maybe there's a rock he likes to lean on or a couple that hold his tackle box just right.
I don't think he uses the term possessively, I just think it's his way of describing his destination.

Most interesting part of Bands post was spawning blackfish jumping out of the inlet. Thought he was joking but read female blackfish swim to the surface with males in pursuit to drop their eggs. Never knew that was how they spawned . Eggs float on the surface a few days before hatching and then the fry start feeding on plankton. Pretty amazing and great tidbit of information, would love to have seen that.

That really was interesting.. Never heard that about tog, and would never have guessed..I wonder how it works when they are in deep water on wrecks and such, unless most of them head in closer to shore to spawn... bob
