Bergall is delicious. One of my favorite fish to eat.

Last year I was out on a trip and began catching large bergalls (12-14 inches). I kept a few, and you are right. Delicious!

If you fillet them from just aft the rib cage back to the tail, you don't have to mess with bones, you get a nice thumb size chunk of meat.

We get large ones when cod and seabass fishing outta Montauk. 1.5 to 2+ lb variety. I berated my father one trip for throwing a nice one back. Lol. Now if I'm aboard he asks prior to release.

I make them scampi style in the broiler. Hands down better than blackfish, more texture and flavor than cod.
