What type of knot do you guys feel is best for tying your shock leader to your braid? I've been using a modified Albright knot aka Alberto knot and I take great care in tying it. I also make sure I don't cut the tag ends off too close to the knot. However, once in a while the knot will come undone but fortunately never while i was fighting a fish. I assume the knot gets loosened by repeatedly going through the guides. Has anyone had similar problems with this knot or others?
Thanks, Paul Haertel |

Double Uni Knot
Never failed me on stripers, blues, fluke, tog, albies, etc. |

I was using the FG for awhile but it is not easy to tie correctly and also had it fail. I have only used the Reverse Albright since and haven't had any issues. I make a few half hitches to finish it off.

Reverse Albright , the key is to form loop then form knot ! Triple surgeons or Bimini loop then always wrap mono around double line loop ten wraps, mono goes thru loop and exits same side of loop , leave tag end long tighten in one smooth motion , it will lock down , done ! I use gloves to tighten ! Takes 30 seconds to tie .
I’ve taken tuna on this knot never expierened a failure ! Inshore no issues , used over 20 years ! |

I use the FG knot, but only when I tie at home. I put a very small drop of super glue on the end with the half hitches. On a boat, I tie Alberto Knots. Faster and easier.

Double uni knot has always been my choice to attach mono or flouro to braid, never had one loosen up on me

I have now been wrapping the braid 8-10 times each way and putting it through the loop at the end twice rather than once. This newer version of the modified Albright or Alberto Knot seems to have done the trick. Thanks again! Paul Haertel

Hmm - Doubling the line through the loop twice sounds like a plan... I guess it works given the size of the fish I saw you and your crew with the other day Paul

I've never tried to double within the loop after coming back up but I might just give that a try next time and see if it's just as slim.

Steve & Marc, Uni to Uni is a very strong knot and I've never had one fail either. The only problem is the knot is much bulkier than Albright or Alberto and always gets hung up on the tip especially when loaded.
