Default Golden tilefish

The following was extracted from the "Golden Tilefish Individual Fishing Quota Program- Five Year Review". Pay attention to the first sentence. The current limit is 8 fish per person.

Recreational Sector Theme. There is concern that an increase in recreational
fishing of golden tilefish will deplete the resource. Stakeholders provided the following observations: 1) There has been increased recreational fishing effort towards golden tilefish as the seasons for other key recreational species have shortened, and 2) because tilefish is a slow growth species and the bag limit is relatively high, some recreational anglers are worried that the increased recreational effort will deplete the resource.

I just think its interesting that there is concern that recreational fishing may deplete a fishery that is more that 70 miles from the coast because the seasons for other key recreational species have been shortened.

Thumbs up Re: Golden tilefish

I was on a Tilefish trip and we were catching Blueline like they were porgies in Raritan bay. What is the answer, cut the rod and reel guys quota.

Yes, rod and reel guys are devastating the Tilefish populations !!!

The best one was was well these fish do not migrate, therefore we need to cut the rod and reel guys take.

There is that word again "STAKEHOLDERS"

I am equally concerned about "stakeholders" AND the higlighted quote above that SOME RECREATIONAL Anglers are promoting this crap. IF true then once again we are our own worst enemy

But the long liners with half mile pot strings with 500 hooks on the bottom along the edge are ok? Are you fn kidding me?!?!

1) they're 70+ miles out in our area
2) maybe 10% of Rec tuna boats even bother to deep drop for tile
3) and 10% of the above mentioned 10% actually know where and how to catch them!!!

Talk about shitty science and shitty methodologies... rob from Peter to pay Paul. Someone is getting paid to cast a net of bullshit. I'm sure recs are overly concerned with the recent "jump" in people tile fishing. Gimme a break!

It was proposed that the allowable catch for blue line tile fish was 8 on party boat, 5 on charter boat and 3 on a private boat. I don't know if the above was adopted or not but they are supposed to take into account the social and economic impact of any proposed regulation. I bet it costs more per fish caught on a private boat than a charter or party boat, thus putting more money into the economy. Do you get the feeling they are try to push the recreational off the water? Our recreational representatives on the counsels are doing one hell of a job!!!

On 5, yes five, tuna trips to the canyons aboard the Gambler this year, I can count on one hand the number of tiles--TOTAL--caught. Oh, that goes for the last two years as well....it's a wonder there are any left out there.....
