November 11, 2017 : Central Jersey Stream Team did a cleanup at Duhernal Lake in Old Bridge Township. Today's haul included 26 tires, 2 car rims, 2 wooden ladders, a carpet, 2 chairs, chain link fence,1 wheel barrow, 1 lawn mower, a box spring, 1 gas tank, 102 bags of recycling, 49 bags of trash, and lots of misc metal.
CJST would like to thank all our volunteers for braving the cold to help out and a special thanks to the Spotswood Cub Pack 35. We would also like to thank Old Bridge Township for trash disposal. |

Good haul. A lot of trash being exposed as the vegetation declines. Any idea when the next cleanup will be? They're scheduling for winter?

The volume of plastics in the water over there is insane. Why did they choose that particular area? I live in spotswood. They cleared out a ton of trees etc on main st by where the old Stewart's was. Are they planning open that area up to the public?

Yeah same question as jig. Not that it isnt important to clean all our waters, being a old bridge resident for most of my life I appreciate this effort immensely, but why put priority on a body of water that is (while loosely enforced) technically private property?

Honestly, WHY do people in NJ do that to their fresh waters??.. Is it simply a population thing??.. You just don't see anything like that at ALL up here even in the cities... Its not perfect here , we have *******s as well, but you simply never see the garbage in the water here, even in areas where rivers run through big cities.
I lived in NJ the first 37 years of my life, moving upstate in 1991.. I NEVER remember seeing this type of garbage in NJ fresh water rivers, lakes and streams.. I guess a lot has changed in the 26 years since I left NJ... bob |
