Default 8/28/24 Clam Haul

Went solo clamming a few hours before low tide @ 9 AM on Wednesday 8/28/24.

One of the great spots on Long Beach Island is around High Bar Harbor which I am sure a lot of you already probably know.

Grabbed a few of all difference sizes. Some of them really get massive!

After I got back, we made a linguine clams. Next time, will post the recipe and photos before chowing down.

Check these jokers out!

Question Re: 8/28/24 Clam Haul

I see you need a license to go clamming. Do they stock clams like freshwater fish, asking for a friend.

New Jersey has a hard clam aquaculture industry that helps to replenish the state's natural clam beds, which have been declining for decades. I'd think the license fee originated as a funding source for that program. That's a guess but makes sense. Like every other public salt water resource with a commercial and in this case recreational price tag on it's head, if we count on natural reproduction to sustain the resource we're probably going to end up losing the resource for future generations.
