Default July '16 - Local LMBs (including a PB), Smallies on the SB & RI Bassin'

I have been doing lots of fishing the past couple weeks (And lots of catching to for a change) and haven't had time to post in between so thought I would just put it all in one super-post covering pretty much all of July.

The 6 Bass Night - I just started getting into crankbaits and man am I late to the party! Early July went to Echo lake one night to try my luck and not a bite after two hours. Even though it was almost 1 am decided to try my luck at another lesser known UC hole. First cast with my Strike king KVD squarebill (Orange belly craw pattern size 1.5) landed a nice bass in the 1.5-2 lb range. For the next two hours I was catching left and right with the same lure, ended with 6 Bass ranging from 1.5-2.5 lbs And some drinks for good measure. Definitely my best night in Union County, at least in terms of quantity. (Sorry no pics)

The flat tire bass and a new PB - The day after my good night I took my dog and son to another UC park near my house and as I was parking I scraped the curb....didnt think anything of it until I opened my door and could hear the tire hissing and new it was a goner. This was a blistering hot Sat. And i knew my dog and 2 year old son wouldn't last while I changed the flat so my wife came and picked them up while I sweated in the sun changing the tire. I got the full size spare on only to discover it had not been patched as promised and wouldn't hold air at all. Called the wife agsin to come get me and the tire to take to STS so they could put a new one on my rim that I could bring back to the car and finally complete the tire change. She said it would be 20 minutes before she got there so I grabbed a pole from back of the truck and ran to the pond to make the best of a bad situation. Second cast with the same crank from previous night caught me a nice bass, my first from this pond (not for lack of trying). Anyway now that I had some confidence at this place I decided to go back a few nights later and using a Senko caught my new PB 3.7 lb bass. Only downer was the fish snapped the tip on my Fenwick Eagle rod (my 'good' rod). Despite that setback it was a good run in Union County.

Smallies on the SB - met a buddy the following day for a morning kayak float on the South Branch near Camp Carr. It was a great trip, my first to the SB. We both caught so many smallies we stopped counting, mostly on Senkos and some on jighead/grubs. Nothing huge but it was still a blast. I would have had a blast catching nothing that river is so beautiful. I cant wait to go back!

RI Bass Love Senkos- this past weekend I was at my mom's in Newport RI and fished a new reservoir I hadn't tried before. You would think these fish had never seen a Senko. In a half hour I landed 4 LMB all 1-2 lbs. Nothing huge but all fun size. When I got home last night my wife sent me out to pick up dinner and I couldn't resist taking a few casts in the Rahway river in Cranford. After about ten minutes I landed one of the larger LMBs I have caught in the Rahway.

Solid action on the home waters! Congrats on the PB LM!!! That's some good stuff right there. Making the best out of a crappy situation is priceless. Way to go man!!!

As far as the SB goes, absolutely beautiful river to float or hike! Highly suggest cruising the entire river if you have the time.
