Re: A Snakehead Fishing Adventure! Watch the Go PRO Snakehead Video!
.
Awesome video Ken. I've never caught a Snakehead, but it's on my bucketlist. I agree with Chrisper. The media is all "doom and gloom" about the establishment of Snakeheads in New Jersey, but I'm not all that sure it's an objectively bad thing. Although the evidence in anecdotal, when I was vacationing in Florida where a different species of Snakehead was well-established, other anglers told me that the population of gamefish wasn't negatively affected by the presence of snakeheads. Perhaps when Snakeheads inevitably work their way to North Jersey, it may actually improve the overall quality of the fishing. It will provide anglers another species of big predator to pursue and help cut down on the sunfish populations that are out-of-balance in most lakes. I'm not an icthyologist and this is pure conjecture, but it's something to think about. Ken, let us know how a Snakehead tastes. They are a delicacy in Asia. .

Re: A Snakehead Fishing Adventure! Watch the Go PRO Snakehead Video!
I spent a few years catching cobra snakeheads in Florida when I was living in FT Lauderdale. They did not cause any issues, and the media frenzy proved to be nothing more than hype. From an ecological perspective, they are essentially the same as bowfin. They both evolved in different parts of the world to fill the same ecological niche, in a process called convergent evolution. On a side note, at least the Florida species fight very hard. I caught them up to about 10lbs and they were much more challenging to catch and fought much harder than bass.
