Alternative Lures for Bass

As I began catching bass with senkos over the summer, I have to admit that I began to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride, particularly when I held up that catch and the ladies walking by seemed impressed by my fishing prowess and manly potential to provide food as a hunter of fish.

But then I saw this video on You Tube and while mildly annoying sound-wise, my senko-bass fishing ego was brought back to normal.

At about 2:20 on the video, the fella catches a nice bass on a twizzler after a number of attempts with gummy worms.

I also recollect at a few locations I fished, seeing empty packages of Swedish fish. Makes me wonder.

I bet homemade lures also perform very well for bass. Anything that looks/acts like a popper, a minnow, or large grasshopper on the surface I expect to catch many fish with. Especially if you fish a golf course pond loaded with hungry bass like in the video

Lots of lures work for bass..Especially when your there during their feeding period..Senkos always a good bet. The scent on those candy type lures may have drawn a hungry bass in..Stick with know produces. Senkos, spinner baits, rapala minnow baits for starters..best advice is to learn a couple of lures real well and study the lakes
or ponds your fishing..Tite lines..

When I was a kid, my family had a cabin on a lake in Sussex County (we still have it). We had a habit of throwing our leftover meals in the lake "for the catfish", including any bread. As a result, the dock area was literally swarming with sunfish. We jokingly called them piranha because of the way a leftover hot dog roll would draw hundreds and be gone in seconds.

We'd catch bluegills, some pretty huge, and the number we caught was only limited by how long it took us to take the fish off the hook, bait it and get it back in the water. A hundred or more a day was routine.

Later on we tried catching them on bare hooks just to add to the challenge. It took a little work, but we could still catch dozens on a bare hook. We caught a few bass over that time on a bare hook, including a 6 lb LM that my brother caught on nothing but a bare hook.

Granted it was salt water but I caught a Black Drum on a Twizzler years ago in Maryland
