Thumbs up Raritan river 9/20/15:

Slow day overall, some small SMB in Manville and Somerville, just loving all that Round Valley water being pumped into the river. Shallows are choked with all kinds of baitfish, CO was out on patrol !!!

.

I guess they had to start pumping out of Round Valley because there is hardly any water left in Spruce Run.

As of today, there is no rain anywhere in the foreseeable forecast. This is a problem.

We're going to need some super-natural help here. I'm breaking out the loin cloth and feathers and will be performing rain dances on the banks of Spruce Run. I encourage everyone to join me to generate the needed meteorological power to generate the needed precipitation.

I propose our next Meet & Greet be NJFishing Rain Dance 2015!

Well it's been almost a year I have put in (conditions permitted) at least 1 day out of the week on the Raritan. I have enjoyed the great posts (R.R.A.A.A) from the Raritan guys, thank you.
I think I have been putting in enough time to start posting myself and contributing. I fish the Raritan from the Duke dam down to Manville.
I have not made it to the river today, but fished all of Friday, Saturday, and a couple hours on Sunday. The small mouth bite is nice.. I have been using shiners lately ( mediums and large size) The smallies have been nailing them at times the second the bait bits the water!! Fish on! They were aggressive this weekend. I am constantly looking for new holes, the one I fished this weekend ( a couple hundred yards down river from a common fishing spot) produced small mouths up to 3lbs+ Found them in slack water down river after a nice drift.
If your using bait use as little weight as possible because the Channels are hitting hard on the Raritan lately. I have pulled in some very nice sized catfish the last week bass fishing. Unless catfish is your thing , gotta try and keep the bait up. Again if your looking for Channels they are definitely hitting on the Raritan.
Only one big eye this month looking forward to more big eye action as the water temp goes down.
Its a pleasure to start posting with you all about fishing on the Raritan. Thanks again for all the great posts, keep them coming..... Hope to meet some of you guys out there. This season I am the guy with the Black Under Armour hat with the license hanging off the back.
Say what's up.
Hope to make it down there today sometime...will let ya know if anything special is going on.

Whats wrong with the fish?? The taxidermist that was fishing next to me said it was at least 7lbs and I had to get it mounted. Can't wait to hang it next to the 5lb Pumpkin Seed I did battle with and landed last season.
