![]() I've been trying the FG knot this season for all my braid to mono topshots. Love it. Key in tying it is keeping tension on the braid. Haven't had one fail yet.

![]() Best is not required in 95%!of fishing applications ! The reverse Albright where the mono is wrapped around a double length of braid is suitable for 95%!of applications. The key to this knot is to double ur braid via Bimini , surgeons or spider hitch,PRIOR to mono wrap & go thru braid loop eyes coming & going !
When cinching do it in one complete smooth motion u til it stops ! I use gloves to complete to get it seated correctly ! Other knots R harder to tie when u need to work fast , I've personally taken Tuna to 200#!'s with this knot & I'm sure can land much bigger fish ! Best re rigging bottom knot going , fast simple & strong ! If u need ultimate strong knots then core spliced is my choice with HC braid ! A couple of companies now offer braid that can be core spliced down to 30HC . Toro Tamer braid is one that excels in this application ![]() |

![]() That knot is very god with SOME brands of braid.
Others such as Berkley Nano it isnt worth sh^t. we also have been using the Collins knot but is also doesnt work very well with some of the slicker braids. for me while a little bit to tie, the PR bobbin knot works with every type of braid. and it NEVER fails here is the Collins knot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiSik3Jqs7M

![]() The problem I have with the Albright and everything like it, where we wrap braid around doubled mono, is that the mono tag end tends to stand out at a slight angle and and up on the guides. If you can tie a perfect Albright (Alberto, ...) every time and don't experience this issue, more power to you. I can't.
Captain Lou, what you describe here sounds like a Bristol or No-name knot, which is what I use. It's a great knot: easy to tie, compact, and strong. The IGFA rates it very highly, if that matters. The mono tag end can be trimmed to about a millimeter, and sticks out at a right angle so that it has no tendency to hook onto a guide. Quote:
