Default Phrustrating Philly Salmons

went back to the water i caught the nice largemouth catfish in Monday to try for some glamour species. Got there about 6:15 threw some chum & saw carps immediately. I could see em bubbling & swimming all over. I tried surface baits & no takes but could see them rooting in the chum but not taking hook baits. Killed some time with panfish, dink & SUPER DINK bass. finally got a great runoff & my rod is in the water! I got ankle deep to save it. Fought the carp for 7 minutes & hook pulls. as I am fighting him my other rod goes off but doesn't come tight.I get both back in the water 15 minutes i am hooked up & land a little guy after a nice fight with some great runs so much fun on light line. I had 3 more runoffs but the hooks pulled! Just one of those evenings going 1-5 in 2 hours but definitely alot of life swimming I must of saw 20 carp in the area so I am going to get them with m-80s if i got to!

Hey Murr. What kind of line/leader you using for the small water salmon? I had a phrustrasting trip a couple weeks ago when the salmon were all up in my slick but wouldn't take my hook bait. Thought they may have been line shy to the braid I had on that I use for my river fishing. I'm gonna go back and maybe use mono or a long fluoro leader.

Well I can't respect your love of the Eagles, but I can respect your love and frustration of Philly salmon. I'm going to put a long stretch of fluoro leader on next time I go there. I have a spot that is just nuts and I can literally see 50-100 massive carp at any minute. I see them, tails up, going to town on the pack bait, but they won't go near the hook bait. I'm certain at this point that they shy away from the braid. Think I may need a little more finesse with the small water fish. Keep trying buddy, at least you got pick-ups.

you too bro cannot catch em if you don't try! These fish were not big but the #s were incredible. You try just baiting them with no hooks for a few days then go with hooks?

I think I do need to pre bait more and get them used to eating in that area. Just a bit too far from home to go there every day. And plus, there's musky to be caught. I'll keep you posted, and if you're ever in the neighborhood of professional sports franchises that actually win championships, I'd be happy to take to my honey hole.
