Default Canyon Tuna Sat Sun 30hour

Finally got out with the boys for our annual tuna trek to the deep. Hit a non sponsor out of LBI for Sat 30 hour trip. MAN OH MAN was NOAA off the mark for Sat afternoon and evening weather. Got out there around 1pm and all hell started to break loose..... Rain, big winds, water spouts and angry seas with 15 foot rollers and occasional 20 footers heading for the bow. I was jigging up front and actually ran to the stern thinking for sure the wall of water was gonna break over the bow. Well we stuck it out with improving conditions overnight and put 6 LF in the box. We also lost a few. RJ was a jigging animal and never touched a bait rod he was high hook with 4. Andrew and I contributed one to the catch. Boat had 40 LF and 3 yft. Gonna miss that boat. Always a good trip. The anglers on this trip were awesome.....when you hooked up they reeled up and got out of the way. No selfishness at all. Extremely cooperative. Key to putting so many fish in the boat.

Congrats on a successful trip in less than ideal conditions. Now that you got your tuna fix in it will be all about the tap, tap, Thump going forward this year with maybe a few seabass trips mixed in

Nice trip. 15-20 footers though? Where could you possibly have fished? Highest recorded waves at the TT buoy Saturday were 9 ft. Sounds like you guys found hurricane conditions somewhere?

Well all I can say is I am glad I had 30 other witnesses including captains and crew. For me it was truly something to see. Thankfully it was short lived and I knew improving conditions were coming. I had it the other way on the Miss Barnegat Light many years ago when we got caught coming home in nasty weather with 15-20 footers and it took 8+ hours to get home and that boat is a beast. They told us get in your bunks and do not get out. Waves breaking over the bow every set. Gotta love those canyon trips.
