Default South Branch - Califon area

Headed up to the South Branch. Picked up some bait at Shannons Fly Shop. A good centrally located place. I'm glad they sell bait along with thousands of handtied nymths and flies. Drove a bit downstream. Second cast I had a very heavy fish on. 5+ pounds that broke my line after running upstream. Next cast I landed a 2 1/2 pound rainbow. A lots of guys were nailing the trout pretty good on corn. Some real nice ones. Brooks and rainbows alike. But I just can't bring myself to use corn. I know the fish don't digest corn easily. I can't take a chance killing the fish I miss with corn to catch a couple. Never been that desperate. Plus, these guys were chumming with the corn too. It was like cheating to me. The whole bottom of the stream was loaded with corn. I hope the ducks and geese find it before the fish do.
Be at it all week. Next stop, the Musky.

Thumbs up Re: South Branch - Califon area

Maybe go back and find the lunker that got away. I'm with ya on the corn issue.
