Marina Choices

When you chose the marina you are in, what was it that made you go there? What ammenities do you look for and what do you want to stay away from? I eventually want to get a larger boat and was just curious about how to choose a good marina.

For me, it's about getting the best deal for a slip. Lord knows I'll be spending that savings at the gas dock.

Floating docks and power.

I've docked at 10 different marinas with several differnt size boats, ove rthe years. When I owned a bigger boat & family wanted to stay on board for periods of time then I would consider something the marina would offer to keep them happy. Such as outside the boat showers that were very clean,using the boat to shower is OK but you alwyas have to clean up etct,etc. Swimming pool if kids were involved,possibly an adjacent eatery,one had beach rights.
Myself I was concerned with how the marina looked after your big dollar investment during priods of bad weather,since I live 1 & 1/2 plus from my boat this was important to me. Also the marina itself did it offer good weatehr protection, passing boat wakes, floating docks were a must for me, shore power,water , hookups,decent lighting on the docks as well as dock boxes provided by them.
Also were they vigilant so as to prevent boat break ins etc. Did they offer any type marine servives to pull, repair or fuel, your boat w/o having to leave the dock or call in an outside contractor. This can be good or bad I have had good expierance using both but I looked each over closely!
Fishing marinas are generally less suitable for families since boats leave at all hours and imentitiies are limited. Not saying docks are bad just a different no frills enviorment. I've satyed at both and worked for me at different stages of my boating life.
Another caviat' some marinas are costly even thoufh they offer very little in these immentities,however they may be close to fishing grounds and therefor very desireable to some.
So lots of chioces to fit ones boating needs, I've always made it a point to talk with folks docked there,get their opinions if possible. Good luck!!
