GAMBLER --Canyon Report
On our way off to the canyon in nice weather Weds, we saw large pods of whales feeding on the flats. No other boats were around. We set up to drift through the whale show (I'll never get tired of that). We started catching big yellowfin, mostly 70 to 90lb class, with a few smaller. We also landed a pair of 120lb bluefin and a few mahi.
As the sun began to set, the action abated, so I anchored Gambler in 630ft on the canyon wall. Shortly after dark, the breeze stiffened and the rock and roll began. Not much action at all in the dark and the early morning bite didn't happen, so we picked up by 7AM and headed back to the previous day's spot. I saw a few whales but nothing like the day before. It took a little while but we started hook-up on big yellowfin again, landing a few more. We broke off a few big ones, too. Great trip with a great group of guys. Headed back out again tomorrow. Changed our time slot to avoid the worst of the wind.
