I worked this trip as second captain, absolute awesome fishing, like we had back in the 80's. Whales blowing, skipjacks swarming the chum and yellowfins crashing the baits. The bite started about 7:30 and did not let up, we left them biting ! Do not miss this experience and don't bring your skinny little fluke rods, some guys brought a knife to a gunfight today and they really got their butts kicked ! Don't underestimate the power of these fish and don't miss this experience.

WOW! Any Captain, within 100 miles, in the last 8 or so years has only DREAMED about writing a report like this. I hear CAPT74 is at the helm on these trips. Is that true? If so, I understand the success, he's learned from the best and has put his time in. I knew CAPT74 some time ago...wonder if he'd remember me...hope he has time to come back to The Gambler later this season...

New to tuna. So far on my 2 trips it was trolling.
What kind of setup would I need? Jigging med-heavy, spinning, conventional?
Thanks for any information

Gfedor- for bait fishing these trips a med-heavy rod and a conventional reel the size of a 6-0 senator are perfect. Sixty to 80 lb running line and we will adjust the leader weight to the water clarity and how aggressive the fish are biting. Yes there are lighter rods and reels available, but what ends up happening is that the guys can not put enough pressure on the fish to pump them up and eventually the line chafes and breaks. If you are jigging, the same set up will work but a heavy spinning outfit will allow you to cast further. Again, if the tip is too "fast" you are going to hook the fish but you will have a real tough time working them to the boat because you can't get enough pressure on the fish. Hope this helps, feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.--Rich
