![]() been pounding bass, sunnies, and lake trout locally, but took a trip up to cape cod the other week. Here's the trip report/story for anyone without the other social media that cares to check it out:
Our Texas alligator gar trip got canceled and i thought we were screwed but I took a shot in the dark and contacted one of the best tuna captains I know and through some stroke of luck, he was able to get us on!! The day started off amazing with whales and dolphins everywhere; some amazing eye candy.... but the tuna refused to eat for anyone in the fleet. And that is why you only fish with the best... Capt. Dom used his instincts and broke away from the fleet to stalk a group of fish under birds that weren’t feeding at all. He was able to maneuver the boat direct us as a team to force feed this absolute dino tuna and hook us up for the fight of our lives! (Even with a banana on the boat haha) After a 45-50 minute fight, the three of us were able to get this beast to the harpoon, but the fight wasn’t over! After cooling the fish down and bleeding it, we had to get itin the boat, but it had pulled us out pretty far and the weather had taken a nasty turn. Long story short, because of the rough seas, the first attempt ended up with a snapped metal clip while the tail rope was being maneuvered (not attached to anything) and three of us diving on the loose rope as the tuna sank down, just barely saving it from disappearing to the depths! Our second attempt to haul it in with the block and tackle snapped a dock line we were using to lift. Our third attempt finally got the behemoth in the boat after over 2 hours fighting the rough seas. My buddies’ first tuna and my personal biggest at 101” and about 600 lbs
