Default Alabama Rig........

Ok, so earlier this year I was fishing at shepards lake and thought I had snagged up some weeds. After a bit of a struggle I managed to reel in the weeds, and a funny lookin rig with a bunch of swimbaits attached to it.

At first, I laughed it off as an inexperienced anglers crutch, and hung it up in my garage like a fishermans mobile, lol. Recently I was watching WFN and they were showing a bass tournament that took place on a lake in both Tennessee and Kentucky. 90% of the anglers in the tournament were using this rig and hammering bass. Hmmmmmmm.........

I'm wondering, have I had the ultimate de-skunker in my possesion? And, if it is that good, should it even be allowed in tournaments? Is it cheating, or just the ultimate "fish finder"?

Thoughts, opinions?

Thumbs up Re: Alabama Rig........

Trout fisherman have been using that gadget for YEARS. Trolling etc. I miss when I had my 9.9, used to make the hacks look like what they are. Its definitely a weapon for fishing but I for 1 wouldn't use it............... EVER, NO HACKS ALLOWED!!!

I would also tie in a shot of mono between the swivel on the wire and the shads. Bet it would work 10x better.

Wink Re: Alabama Rig........

we been selling these rigs like crazy for everything from fluke and small bluefish to bass. guys have been using them as an umbrella rigs, trolling in both fresh and salt water. spruce run fishermen have been trolling up hybrids and trout in round vally. or you can cast it relativly tangle free for just about anything. i know it seems like cheating but. its a very usefull tools.

I saw a similar rig being sold a Cabelas and bought it. I have not given it a try and not sure of NJ regs about fishing such a thing in FW.

Caught my eye...needs to catch the fish...FW or Salt

I've got a few of these and they are deadly on blues while casting it. I haven't tried with fluke but honestly I don't think I want to. It's illegal in certain tourney's for a reason. I used them a couple of times and had great success but it was like cheating, felt like it anyway.

The possibility of catching 5 blues at a single time, even if they are snappers, may be worth the purchase. not sure how well they hold up to tackle busting blues with the model I got. Will give it a try snapper season

I bought one at the expo this spring. I have used it trolling around Manasquan Res. and have yet to get a nibble on it the 2 days I have tried it. I could not imagine casting that thing all day long. I will keep trolling it but may go back to trolling rattle traps for hybrids.
