I used to live in Tallahassee and I fished around St George quite a bit. A lot of spotted seatrout, redfish and flounder in the bay, especially around oyster bars and grassbeds. You can fish topwaters for them, or a cajun thunder float with about 18 inches of mono to a 1/4 to 1/2oz jighead and a gulp shrimp. Cast it out then pop it, let it sit...repeat. There are a lot of creeks going into the bay that all have a lot of fish both east and west of the island. If you have a car, check out Lanark Reef, a sandflat. Lots of reds, seatrout and ladyfish there. Also big tarpon. In the surf there are small gulf kingfish and maybe a pompano or two, but its not the time of year for them. You can run baits out at night on heavy gear for big sharks too. Just be very careful. Also, if you go west to Panama City, there is really good fishing for king mackerel, redfish, Spanish mackerel, sharks and even the occasional sailfish or dolphin from the pier this time of year. PM if you have any other questions. |
