Default Roosters Flukin 6-22-2017

Tom and I left our slip at Atlantic Highlands Marina at 7 this morning and made a stop at the breakwater before heading out. There were no fish caught at breakwater where the water was dirty but very calm with a light breeze from the East. Made a move to the Shrewsbury Channel where the seaweed was heavy and the tide still going in, no fish here. Went out to #1 Can then over to the Knoll for no fish. Out to the ocean in between two clammers working the beach surf where we were rewarded with Sea Robins, Sand Sharks and Clear Nose Skates but no Fluke. The fish here were very cold to the touch. Went inside to Officers Row near the parked barges, where we caught some shorts, then back to the Shrewsbury Channel and drifted to an area near the breakwater in fifteen feet of water where Tom picked up a few Fluke one being about 20”. Headed in about noon with one keeper and glad to have that one keeper. Most party boats were seen in the bay except for Belmar’s Golden Eagle at the Hook catching those yellow-eyed demons. The Fluke really went for the giant Killies Tom traps. Pete

Thanks for sharing. Looks like they're still in shallow.

Guess again.....they're not in shallow water either. Worked the shallow waters in the Keyport area all day....6 ft to 12 ft, just one 15 inch short for all the hours we put in. Really shaping up to be a pitiful year. The blues, 4 to 6 lbs, finally showed up in the afternoon just before high tide top save the day.
