Happy New Year
Stayed in New Years eve to take advantage of a fishable weather window. We waited out the morning blow talking to the old timers in the Den. Talking fishing with them is always good before a trip. Their stories and knowledge are priceless. Old timers fishing stories never get old. You can never get to much fishing knowledge. When I want to learn something about a technique or new location I am planning to fish. I will go into a tackle shop and start a conversation with the old timers that are always at the Mom and Pop shops. I sneak my question/s in without being direct. Connecting with the Old Timers first with a joke or funny comment will get a much more detailed answer. Just like on a charter/party boat. I always let the mate tie my first rig. Even if I take it off and retie my own. I learn what others are doing. On charter boats I watch captains anchor, mates fillet fish, taking in as much as possible. Catching fish is always good too.
Oh Yeah, Scales caught fish too. We started the new year off with 9 keepers to 6 lbs. Hopefully we will get out Wednesday for one more trip before the PUOSU.
