Default Fantastic Finish to the 2016 season

Today was the last trip of the year (on our boat) for my father and I. Loaded up the crabs and off we went. Left shark river at 7:00 and headed out to the grounds. Dropped the hooks and it looked great on the machines but we had no life... made a little wiggle on the anchors and a slow pick turned into a fast and furious bite. We really had to pick through shorts, way way way too many 13-14 inch fish. I would say we averaged a keeper for every 6 shorts. However, the bite was ON, and we were boxed up by 945. As my dad is complaining about the ratio he hooks into a fish and it doubles his rod over. It takes drag, has weight, but doesnt feel like the right species. After a nice little battle, up comes a solid codfish! After the cod we continuted to pick fish 12-14 inches until the current died. Once the current fully died we shifted awkwardly and instead of resettting we ran to look for some bigger fish.
Got set up at spot number two and needed to really sinker up. Full moon tide was PUSHING. My dad catches and releases a 5 pounder instantly. I miss a few, we pick some nice roaster sized keepers and some shorts and then finally i got the bite i was looking for. I got this fish 4 cranks of the bottom and he didnt like it very much. He turned his head and bolted back into the wreck and busted me off. After that, the bites stopped which happens often when you lose a big fish.
Made one last stop on the way home and we picked a solid amount of keepers and shorts on jigs and spinning gear to end the season. Ended the year with well over double our limit ORL so im happy.

Beautiful day out there with a calm ocean. Very rare to get a nice day like today this time of year, and this excellent action we had made the day that much warmer!

Blackfish Wrap up: This tog season was slower compared to last year however the 2016 blackfishing was still really good. Constant early limit catches, and we had 6 fish at or over 10 lbs.

Tight lines everyone, see you in 2017!

Kevin
Congrats on another great season. Way to end the year on a high note.
Just becuase your boat is done for the year hopefully you and your Dad will take advantage of the great Tog fishing during the remaining winter. Some of the biggest blackfish are caught during the next month or so
