Indeed. I had the first optimistic strike on a jig within 15 seconds on the first drop....broke the line 15 seconds later... first tuna boated at the stern on bait 5 minutes later by another angler. A start like that was sure to breed success....not so much. Two tuna for the boat and some Mahi. Weather was perfect until night 2 when she started howling and seas picked up. Last few hours were not fun whatsoever. A few sword bites were lost along with a handful of other tuna bites. Blue dogs were out in force.

One lost yellow was fought for a loooooong time by one of the veteran fisherman. Surfaced a few times and was very very large. #40 leader gave way after a long battle though...

Kudos though for Capt Bob and the crew. First class operation and I couldn't have been happier on that front. They all worked hard, fish just didn't cooperate. Great group of experienced anglers as well.... I learned a decent amount by watching and listening...as I do on all trips, no matter how much I think I know. Seems this season is just struggling to get going.

Bait is around...squid were out in force.... Doing one more trip this season...hopefully the bite will turn on.

On a side note...that large fat cow Mahi was brought in on a Daiwa spinner...Stella....nope....vintage Ryobi...!!!! That angler let the drag sing a few more times on the old girl... Loved it...!!!
