Default 9/20/16 - LBI - Day 4

We got so much rain here yesterday. Half the island was under 3 feet of water. It was wild. So we didnt go out and dad and I were itching to get out today. Only few days left in the season and we are trying to make them all count. Got to the boat nice and early and got our spots. Broke the inlet at 8 and headed out. It was cloudy but not a bad day by any means. Light wind and calm seas. Got out to the spot and dropped down. Not much going on and we had a crappy drift. Made some moves and wind picked up. The drift got to be a little fast but not bad. Fishing wasnt as intense as its been but you were still catching fish. Im sure dad and I had 15 shorts a piece. Second drift i dropped down and got slammed and got the fish to the boat and Ryan netted it. That was the dollar fish. A fat 19incher. Dad followed me up with a keeper. Then we moved around and got more shorts and few sea robins. Dropped down and i got hammered hard and reached for the sky and the fight was on. I knew it was a nice fish right from the start so i call Ryan over right away. My rod was doubled over again and we got the beast to the top of the water and he scooped it right up. A fat 6.7 pound fluke. It was sweet. Dad followed up with a nice one for the box. Moved around and got some more shorts but that was about it. Dad ended the day with 2 keepers. I got the 2 keepers and the 6.7 pounder was the pool winner! But all and all it was a nice day out there. No rain and it wasnt to hot. Be back at it tomorrow. Ok here is some fish porn

I have fished on that Barnegat Light boat since I was a child. I know they are not a sponsor. Captain Bill and Captain Will built the boat in the 1970's. Bill is the father and Will is the son and current captain. Bill's daughter Gina runs the business part of the organization and works on the boat.

When I used to rent in Harvey Cedars I would spend my entire two week vacation fishing on the boat. We had great times. On a number of times when the seas were a bit sporty and everyone was inside, Gina and I would be outside. If something was going to happen, I wanted to be on the deck.

If you vacation on Long Beach Island and you fish, please visit my friends. It's a terrific family experience. They understand customer service.

Best wishes on your next fishing trip

I have been fishing on this boat for 20 years now. I remember when Bil ran it and forest was just a little guy running around. Bill was on the boat today and i got to talk to him for a while. He was fishing right next to us. For an 85 year old man hes still got the touch
