Default New Addition to the Axel Carlson

The Austin, a 68' former trawler, is slated for deployment on September 13, 2016 on the Axel Carlson Reef. The site is located 4.4 nautical miles southeast of Manasquan Inlet. This vessel is being sunk as part of the Division of Fish and Wildlife's Artificial Reef Program.

Once the vessel is sunk it will soon become a home for 150 species of fish and marine life, a fishing ground for anglers and an underwater attraction for scuba divers. It will continue to serve for many years as an enhancement to the existing reef system.

Coordinates for the target deployment location are:
40 02.900' 73 59.000'

The vessel is being sunk on a portion of the reef set aside for recreational fishing only. Anglers should stay a safe distance away while the vessel is being anchored in place and scuttled.

The target date for deployment is subject to weather and sea conditions. For further information regarding the deployment of the vessel contact either Hugh Carberry or Peter Clarke at 609-748-2020.

I saw it the other day while out for a cocktail cruise. Figured it was going down soon since she looked like she was stripped down clean.

Looks like Jerry will have a nice new honey whole in a few years once the blackfish take residence. Lot of nooks and cranys for them to get hooked and then break you off. Can see the F bombs flying already.

Is there a reason they dont sink something larger? A nice 3-600 footer would be awesome.

They seem to drop in vessels under 100ft.

Thanks for the numbers, Joey. I'll have to scout it out for the future. Happy to see lots of hang ups to discourage the draggers..............Papa

I'm not one to kick a person when he's down but then I would be lying. How about adding your 4 piece rod to the reef? lol Dennis
