Default Trip to SC in a week

Hey all,

Taking a trip to South Carolina in about a week and a half. Wasn't sure if anyone was familiar with Pametto Bluffs, but thought I'd throw it out there. Anybody know what the best fishing is this time of year? I read that there are massive bull reds on the flats, but when I called the guide he said it was too early for them. Then went on saying mackerel, skates, sharks and sea bass. None of which I'm interested in since I can go around here and get them.

Guess I'm just trying to see if anyone has had any luck with "early redfish" in SC this time of year.

Don't know how far you are from Georgetown, but I fished with a guide there that put me on a 120# Tarpon , in the intercostal. Tarpon are not native to the area but they come north in the summer and hang around until the first hurricane. There are enough so that they now have a C&R Tournament around the end of August. We have also caught Reds this time of year. Let me know if you want his info.

I've fished myrtle beach in august before. Small puppy drum, snapper blues, and African porpano in the surf with plenty of black tup sharks. Everyone I talked to said august was their slow time with fall winter and spring bringing many more options. Never got to fish the bays down there tho

Those were probably "common" pompano. Never heard of African pompano in the surf anywhere. Even the juveniles are usually around wrecks and reefs.

Thanks guys!

Georgetown is a little over 3 hours away. I am looking for something closer to Savannah or Hilton Head. I heard Cobia may be in the rivers so that may be a go. i will have to see what else the Tidal May River offers..Maybe an Alligator or 2. lol.

Looking forward to fishing testing my luck. Will report back once I get home.

Special permit required for Gators! I believe there are Stripers in the Savanna river, but really don't know much about it that far south. I did come across this article: http://www.hiltonheadfishingadventur...south-carolina Good luck, hope you find something.

Awesome! Thanks Reelron. Hopefully I can find some big ones when I'm there.
