![]() I'm thinking about driving to Florida to meet a few Boston friends for a Patriot Miami football game and will have a few days extra before I meet them. I just bought a badfisher SUP and could use some jump start advice of where to possibly fish. Since I haven't planned anything out I am going to bring a mixture of fly gear and spin gear, salt and fresh. I'm not even sure my salt gear has good line on it but I'll deal with that. Do you guys have any advice for me?
Areas to fish. Maybe head to the keys. Inshore, beach. anything. Last edited by thyer; 12-23-2015 at 05:00 PM.. |

![]() Google maps/earth. Drop a pin in the area you'll be in, (in map mode) & water is easy to find. Switch to (satellite mode) after finding water and scope out terrain and access points. No easier way to scout.
I use this method to find pretty much all my spots besides the obvious public places. I've got a list of spots I've yet to hit by just by map scouting. Unknowingly, I've even wound up fishing on FBI property. Was able to land a nice largemouth and almost a big carp before they gave me the boot, lol. Might not be able to catch a fish from ur couch, but you can definitely find where to find them from it.

![]() Lived in Miami for almost 8 years. Dade and Broward counties are full of canals that all hold peacock bass, largemouth, and some have snook and tarpon as well as a myriad of other exotics. Use shiners or small plugs for peacocks. Like Esox said, use Google Earth to find access points. I wouldn't use the sup in fw, but you could use it on some of the flats in Biscayne Bay off Key Biscayne and down in the Keys. I would avoid the sup in the ice bc of boat traffic. If you are willing to drive north a few hours, Sebastian Inlet should be hot for big bull reds this time of year.
In addition, you can catch plenty of species from piers in South Florida and Bridges in the Keys. PM me if you have any questions. |
