Default Pike in the Passaic and Pompton Rivers

Hello I am hoping to obtain some advice/suggestions/recommendations for Pike fishing on the Passaic and Pompton Rivers.

Looking for information regarding line type and test, leaders and effective lure types and sizes.

I have had some experience fishing and catching other species on those rivers but I was not fishing for Pike nor was I educated about Pike at the time.

Also, what are your thoughts about wading through shallow areas with grass on rivers where Pike may be present. Potentially dangerous or if there were Pike in the grass would they more likely get spooked?

There won't be for long! One of the downfalls of a good site like this.

Spend some time on the couch going through the old posts in this section. I can guarantee there are dozens that cover these topics and more. I'm pretty sure guys have made posts specific to "Pike Fishing 101", so that will help you. Just make sure you are using tough enough leaders (40lb flouro leader). Do some research on handling Pike/Muskie too. Lots of Bass guys trying out Pike for the first time aren't comfortable handling a fish twice as long as any Bass they've caught with teeth.

Just finished researching. Don't worry I won't catch all of your Pike. I will have less time for fishing in the Fall. The state stocks Pike in these rivers but you probably know that and are just yankin my chain (pickerel)?.

Anyway, since I will probably only get a chance for a small number of Fall outings I am looking to set up with 20 or 30 lb test braid, a 20 or 30 lb test 9" steel leader and intend to use 3/4 oz spoons (daredevil and Johnson Minnow) and a Booyah Pikee. I will probably try a twister tail grub trailer or split tail on the Johnson minnow.

Any feedback would be great. I'll let all of you, my new fishing pals, know how I do, soon
