Default Catching Up

Since I haven't posted about any of my recent trips I decided that I'm just going to lump all of them into one thread.

1st: Lake George 7/25 to 8/1

My family and I go on vacation to Lake George every year and stay at a cottage right on the water. Was out fishing for at least 3 hours every day on my small boat, unfortunately the fish weren't very cooperative. Smallmouth were much fewer and far between than in years past. I can probably count how many I caught that week on my two hands. All of them (except one) were around 12-13" so nothing special. The only large one I caught was right around 1.5 lbs but I didn't get a picture of him. Other than smallmouth fishing my grandfather, father and I took a charter out for lakers and managed only one 22" shorty. Was my first ever Lake Trout so I'm still pretty happy. I'll post the picture despite me not being able to get a grip on the fish and blinking in the only photo taken (My dad's a fantastic photographer ). The highlight of my week there, though, was when I discovered a beautiful native brook trout stream in one of the most unlikely places. I won't be sharing where it is in order to keep it pristine. I managed to catch about a dozen little 4"ers as well as an 8". Also had two strikes from fish in the 10-12" range. And this was all while fishing for maybe about an hour. Great vacation in my opinion, but I still wish the fishing was a little better!

2nd: Private Pond in PA 8/3

Went up to PA with my goods friends to hang out. Got to do a fair amount of fishing as well at their pond. Caught a bunch of nice pickerel tossing Mepps spinners, the largest being a behemoth 24"! Go figure it ends up being bigger than all the Pike I've caught ! Unfortunately while unhooking him, he made a strong flop and somehow one of his gills snapped. After about 15 minutes of reviving and he was still going belly-up I decided it would be best to put him out of his misery.

3rd: Local Small Pond 8/5

I wanted to try and catch some frog fishing on camera so I went to a local pond that I usually never fish because of how weed choked it is during the summer. Arrived to find that the water was very low, very murky, and with little to no weed cover. My guess is that someone finally threw in some weed killer at some point to control the weeds. So instead of frogging, I threw on a black spinnerbait and managed to catch some decent fish. Once the action slowed down I went over to my usual frogging spot with no luck whatsoever. Unfortunately the Go Pro died before I could wrap the video up so it ends a little abruptly.

Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIgHiuglOT4&feature=youtu.be

Overall: A LOT of fishing and a ton of fun! Unfortunately I don't know how much more I'm going to be able to get out down in NJ anymore this summer as I leave for Paul Smith's College in a week and a half. Trying to make the most of my last few days of Jersey fishing this summer!

Thanks guys! Eddie, thanks for the offer! I'll probably be asking you about it if I can manage to remember to PM you for next year. We stay up on Sabbath Day Point, just south of Hague in a little place called Snug Harbor Cottages. Small and exclusive place, but the cabins are feet from the water and have a gorgeous view looking across the lake and down to the narrows.

Nice stuff! The frog fishing was really interesting - never seen (or tried) that...

I head upto LG at the end of the month just for a couple of days, not sure if I can get any fishing in!!

WOW what a small world....I stay at the same place the 2 weeks before you in cabins 4 & 5...my family has been going to snug harbor for 40+ years...it is my happy place where I feel like i am 12 again....absolutely pristine....

PM me and I'll give you the fishing report next year...usually can't go wrong hitting the humps around the buoy straight out from the cabins...this year was a little slow but managed to figure them out...

WOW, no kidding about it being a small world! My family usually takes the two lakefront cabins on the other side of the little brook from the main sets of cabins, not sure which numbers they are. It's been my family's 3rd or 4th year up there now and we absolutely love it there as well. I'll definitely have to PM you about the fishing report next year! I did mainly fish the shoal out there dropshotting and running crankbaits to not much avail. It was really odd that the bass weren't around where they normally are. I always have had luck trolling shad raps up to Snug Harbor South and this year there wasn't anything around. Hopefully the fish will be more willing to cooperate next year!
