Default Need to buy new 9.9

Hey guys, I apologize for double posting this (I put it in boating too), but there is no better source then the fresh water forum guys! Moderator feel free to delete it if you need to.

I having an older Envinrude 4-stroke 9.9 on my 16' deep V that has been acting up last few years and would like to replace it. My question is, which brand do you guys prefer, and 2-stroke or 4-stroke?

I generally use my boat for trolling at RV/Spruce run, so I need a 9.9. Also, I have a side console, so I need controls. Any recommendations on dealers?

Thanks......

I swear by the Tohatsu 4 strokes, and FYI all Mercury small outboards under 25/30 are tohatsu's ! There are some great deals out there! I know bass pro had short shaft 9.9 for,1700 this spring If you order online no,sales, tax also! Just myn2 cents! Stay far away from Coleman ! Junk and no service available

theres lots of deals around if you look. Depending on how old your boat is it may not be worth spending 2 thousand plus on a new engine. How bad is the engine on your boat now that you cant fix the issues instead of replacing it? You cant rly buy a 2stroke anymore unless you buy an etec, most remote 9.9's are over 3k w controls and cables, they are not interchangeable between motor brands for the most part. Theres lots of good deals on craigslist etc. if you need some help feel free to pm me. I would look into giving your motor some love before I swapped motors especially if you have a 4 stroke. they run forever and the only issues they have is with fuel, a simple carb kit and a tune-up makes them usually run like new

I agree with jimmy, I would find a good mechanic and see what he says about putting money in the motor first. No sense spending a few k when you could spend around 500 and have a good motor for a while longer. Pasch is the only good mechanic I know if your willing to travel I know you will be happy with him but there are others around as well.

I hear you guys about repairing rather then replacing, but it seems like I have done everything and it still runs like crap. Here is my problem. I can run it for about 30 minutes with no problem. As soon as back down on the throttle for something and then throttle up again, it will run for about a minute and then start to sputter like it is running out of gas, when I squeeze the primer it runs for about a minute and then sputters, pump primer and good for a minute and so on and so on......

I have done a carb kit, changed plugs, thermostat, impeller, fuel pump, oil pressure switch and still no change. Tried running with cap off and on fuel tank with no change.

Motor is a 99 Evinrude 4 stroke

Sorry to hijack the fresh water page, but you guys are awesome and got 5 quick responses here and none on boating page.

Had the same issue with my 2000 Evinrude 9.9 Omc usa made 4 stroke. It was the fuel pump. Symptoms are different as you can run for awhile without a prime of the bulb. I would go few mins and then prime to keep running. Did you rebuild the pump. Mine had a check valve keep falling out of position. I expoxied in the keeper and did a rebuild as well. Fixed it right up. New pump was no longer available for my model. Good luck what ever you do.

I replaced fuel pump with new one found on-line. I'm no mechanic, but it sure does seem like a fuel pump issue. Beginning to think I got a bum fuel pump.

Still leaning toward new or newer motor. Wife gave the blessing so might as well go for it before she changes her mind. T
